What We Do

Our Mission

At Ekhaya Kip Keino Children’s Home, we provide a loving, family-like environment for orphaned and vulnerable children in Makwe area of Gwanda in Zimbabwe. Inspired by the legacy of Kipchoge Keino of Kenya, we focus on holistic development—nurturing the spiritual, mental, physical, emotional, and social well-being of every child.

Our mission is to empower children to reach their full potential, offering them opportunities in education, athletics, and personal growth. We also extend our impact to the broader Makwe community by supporting local education, healthcare, and athletic development.

Nana Thabiso Ngwenya .

I arrived at Ekhaya Kip Keino at the age of 9, not only did I find myself a home but a sense of belonging too. Growing at EKK had a positive and profound impact in my life and career. My experiences there gave me a unique perspective and understanding of the significant challenges faced by vulnerable communities, informing my work and fuelling my passion to contribute positively to society. I am now a cofounding member, holding a leadership position in a Non Governmental Organisation that serves a network for Care Experienced Persons. And the cherry on top, I get to have dozens of brothers and sisters.

Ndodana .

I arrived at Kip Keino June 2011, I had never been in high school before so I started my form 1 in the mid year. I was bit older in age with blank mind. I'm very grateful for meeting team EKK because thats when my life took a positive direction. I then finished my “O” levels whilst there and thereafter they sent me to college where I did my motor mechanic course and I passed it. I'm now working as a SENIOR mechanic and WORKSHOP FOREMAN of the company. Thanks a lot to Ekhaya Kip Keino

Sinikiwe Tembo nee Nyathi .

I want to thank EKK founder & staff for their patience and selflessness. Your tireless efforts in providing a safe and nurturing environment myself and other children in your care did not go unnoticed. You made a profound impact in my life and I will be forever grateful. I arrived at EKK in 2001, at the tender age of 13, now I am a lady aged 37, married and working as a Clearing Agent in Plumtree Border Post.

Daniel Nyathi .

My name is Daniel Nyathi. First, I thank God. Then, I also thank our home Ekhaya Kip Keino Children’s Home. I arrived in the year 2000 when I was very young and had not yet started school. I was nurtured and raised with warmth. I started my schooling whilst living at the home until I finished. Now, I am a builder, and I am very grateful for our home.

Ethel Dube .

I arrived at the home in 2003 when I was in Form 2 and completed my secondary education. My experience was good, we received good guidance at all levels and encouragement. I am thankful because if not for the children’s home, I would have been a school drop out or and even a victim of early marriage. In 2008, I completed a course in Cutting and Designing at Esigodini Vocational Training Centre and I now run my own business in textiles.

B. Sebata .

Ekhaya Kip Keino took me in after my family neglected me, providing a safe space to grow for 12 years. It was more than just a home—it was a sanctuary, a place of refuge, laughter, and joy. For me education was a privilege given to me by EKK, not a right. I was supported spiritually, emotionally, and academically. Thanks to their support, I earned two certificates and a diploma. I am truly grateful for their guidance and belief in me, I couldnt have achieved all this without EKK.

Transforming Lives at Ekhaya Kip Keino

Founders

The Ekhaya Kip Keino Children’s Home was established by Stewart Mudokwani, Patrick Masina, and Zibusiso Nyoni former national champions in 800-meter athletics during the early 1990s. As recipients of the Sincerity Trust Scholarship, they trained in athletics in Australia; upon their return to Zimbabwe, they envisioned creating a training facility for young athletes, including an exchange program with Western countries. However, in response to the escalating HIV/AIDS pandemic, they shifted their focus to building a children’s home. With land donated by the local authority in  Makwe Village, Ward 8, Wenlock,  their vision became a reality, providing a safe haven for orphaned and vulnerable children.
